Best travel library gift ever. Somehow I find myself glued to the spot whenever a really interesting bird is around. I think this must have begun when I moved onto the houseboat where water birds are abundant year-round. For weeks at a time I had a “pet” heron who perched daily on the apex of my roof above the front door. Cormorants diving for fish outside the kitchen window are part of the morning routine. This spring a pair of kingfishers chose the marina as the stage for their mating rituals, which mostly involved a lot of chasing and noise. Bald eagles fly over from Foster Island and swallows roost in the eaves of the covered boat slips adjacent to the house. So you could say I’ve acquired a thing for birds. And this is simply fantastic…
